Once ccomplete clean it will looks much better.

I will spend my money only en new wires, cable housing, inner tubes x2, new tires x 2 ( schwalve rapid rob 10 euros each for example), new pads, new grips and a new saddle (ritchey comp black for about 15 euros) or if new leather in that one as you have said.

That is around 40 50 euros. And with a good clean and lot of oil it will look very nice and work fine

I love the mid-90s marins. The SE is a really nice bike. At the time (1996), I was torn between a Marin and an Orange and ended up with a C16r, but......this week I landed on a 95 Eldridge Grade for £30.00. Rather than hijack your thread, I’ll start a separate one as soon as I get photos sorted. Like yours, it’s going to be a budget build. I bought a couple of 2” schwalbe land cruisers which are good for road and off-road, yet look right for the period being plain black and nice and chunky! Other than these it’ll be new cables, a new chain and I have some grips and a saddle in the spares box.

I have been busy over the past week...

Firstly, Parts have arrived:
- NOS 15g Stainless Spokes + Brass nipples - £6.00
- Botton Bracket Shimano UN-26 £11.00
- 26 x 2.35 CST Metropolitan Palm Bay Tyres (white wall) - £16.00
- 26" Inner Tubes - £4.00
- Clarks Elite Brake Pads - £6.00
- Sram 8 Speed Chain - £6.00
- Black Grips - £2.00
- Cables Kit - £3.50
- 1/4 Ball Bearings G10 spec' - £4.00
- Chainstay Protector - £1.75
- M5 + M6 Stainless Screws - £3.00

Total = £63.25 + £10 (Bike cost)

A little more than budgeted, but wasn't expecting new spokes, bearings and Tyres.

Anyway, shiny bits!!!...



Frame has been polished...




Bearing cups cleaned up, no damage..



New tyres... (I'm not 100% sure, comments welcome...)



Rear wheel has now been built back up with new spokes n bearings. Have just spent the afternoon attempting to true the wheel, not looking bad now.

What a transformation on the metal work- the oily mess has in a way done you a favour
1. Made the bike look knackered and lowered the selling price/appeal
2. Protected it against the elements and general rot

That box of silver looks lovely!

Few more bits done...

Shifters have been stripped down, cleaned n re-built. Now they actually work!

Seat has been re-trimmed by my dad. Hes done an excellent job!.. As always (see previous page for before pics)


Unfortunately, the brakes housing were too far corroded, so I've sanded them down n are now in primer. I would have preferred to touch up the units to retain the original printing, but the paint had already started to flake..

Finally, I have started work on the seat post which was heavily marked on the rear through twisting n forcing the seatpost previously. Therefore I have had to sand back the seat post with 100grit paper and will work with finer grades until it is atleast more appealing, bare with me on this...
