I think it's 1997, my wife says I had it in 97-98 when we first started seeing each other. If you can tell what year it is then please let me know.

It's been out of action for many years after I blew the original Rock Shox Judy XCs. The 'new' Bombers seem to have a problem (what did I really expect buying from eBay?? ) so I'll have to strip them down and check out what's going on. But still, it's rideable now and I'm chuffed to bits.

I've already raised the saddle (I used to attempt trials riding years ago) and will probably change the stem for something a bit longer, the Art stem is nice but I think I'd prefer it back to being a bit more standard with the geometry.

Let me know what you think and anything I should do to it. Thanks for looking.

EDIT: Would someone be able to recommend good front/rear tyres? I'll be doing (80% xcountry, 10% downhilling, 10% road).

Also, a good stem if anyone has any recommendations. I'd prefer retro if possible but open to new stuff too. Thanks for any advice as I'm waaay out of the scene now.

It's a 1998 frame, but they went on sale from Autumn of 1997, so I'm not questioning your wife's infallibility.

I don't recognise the type of Bomber you have on there (maybe a 105mm Z3?), but it's clearly a lot longer than the original 63mm Judy. So although that Art stem is extremely short, you do need quite a short stem to compensate for the reduction in head angle caused by the longer fork. I would say 80mm maximum, measured c-c perpendicular to the steerer.

Really nice bike, I love the frame and the fact that you've had it since new. I'd slap a pair of vintage Z2's on it, brilliant ride and I think around 80mm travel.

At 130mm of travel I suspect them might be a bit much for the frame, I reckon changing the forks will radically improve the ride and with that stem you could probably get away with 100mm.

Thanks for the link markwashington, it's good to know exactly what fork I have.

I'm going to take the advice and get myself a Bomber Z2 fork which was what I was looking for in the first place, but somewhere along the line I ended up hitting buy on the Z1 fork, damn! :roll:

Just the tyres left, the tyres on the bike are the original break and enter tyres! The rear one is literally bald which was interesting in the mud when I took it out the other day.

Looks like I'll have to wait that little longer before I can take it out on a proper ride but I'm so close now, again thanks for the advice since it was getting frustrating not really knowing what would be the right thing to do.

Looks in great condition. Agree that getting some shorter travel forks may be the way forward. Looks a sweet bike though, continue enjoying it

Why not hang on to the forks and drop a 100mm spring kit in them?

Thanks EarlofBarnett, it's going to be sweet to get back on the trails. It's a shame I've left it to winter now but it'll still be a blast.
