1997 Kona King Kahuna Hei Hei

How many King Kahuna or Hei Hei frames were there each year ?
It varied from year to year.... but;

We do know that Kona build approximately 4,000 Titanium frames in total, which was over 10 year period from 1991 to 2000. This would have been all of the Hei Hei frames, all of the King Kahuna frames, all of the Score frames and all of the Haole frames; so a mean average of 400 frames each year for all models.

If you glance at page 1 of the Kona Titanium Frame Serial Numbers thread, there is vague reference to the quantities built.

Here

If you study the sequential numbers on the Serial Number List for each year, you can work out their most productive years. The Hei Hei in popular size of say 18" seems to have totalled about 150. When the King Kahuna was introduced in 1996, we think that a little over 100 frames in total across all sizes were produced. But it was new that year, and very expensive at £1,800 for the frame only, owing to the 6-4 Rear Triangle.

Pip. Thank you. That’s amazing knowledge my friend.

4000 worldwide in all sizes isn’t very many at all. I feel even more honoured to be the custodian of one.

How many do you think they made in 1997 and 1998 ? Would it be about 100 again. Naturally the 1997 is the best model of all so keen to know.

Decided to address my used saddle phobia and sourced a new 98 Selle Italia Flite Max.

Went for 98 as I don’t think, at least I couldn’t find a 97 that had the gel inserts. These seem to come in in 1998.

I’m sure someone will know better 😉😉

Anyway retro saddle for retro ride.

Flite saddle upgrade looks awesome!

Im guessing 1998 was possibly their best production year (seems to be alot more 98 frames around than some of the previous years)

Yeah. I think that was a great year all round for bikes. Technology was at a really good point and the KK being the pinnacle

Thanks for your positive feedback and kind words

Headset change out.

Couldn’t resist this two tone black and gold.

Ties everything together so well.
