1997 Kona Kilauea

I'm starting to think you might be right...

So, anyone know what type of front mech my Kilauea had and where I can source one? I think the shed's eaten the original one.

I'm guessing it was an top-swing LX but unsure of diameter (I'll measure the tube later) and model.

I'm only considering the gunmetal as that's what I 'had' originally and I'd like to get it looking as similar as possible, just for nostalgia's sake. Any idea what colour yours came with originally? Or was it a sprung front-end?
I have a nice Syncros carbon post that I bought to fit the Kilauea, but I found that black looked completely wrong (IMO) alongside the frame colour.

Although the 97 Explosif might be more black-friendly, all of the 97 bikes had silver parts and I'm sure the frame colours were carefully chosen for that, so accordingly black isn't all that successful, but here are a US-owned Explosif with a non-Kona grey fork, looks ok, and a Danish one with a red Manitou, looks poor to me.

Oh, and this is my 97 Kilauea (nothing like as bright a blue as yours, I'm jealous!) and on the Lava Dome is the fork that came with it.

My Explosif came with Rockshox Indy SL forks in yellow. They are not a very advanced fork but I think the colour matches quite well and they are in quite good nick. Anthony, the grey does look good on the american bike and I agree that the red looks awful, there is a pair of grey forks on ebay right now but with only 170mm steerer, way to short. I may well have a go with the black P2's just to see and will keep my eyes open for some grey ones. With regards to silver parts unfortunately mine came with black stem and seatpost but they shouldn't cost to much to change to silver should they? Incidently I have stripped the Explosif and given everything a good clean and polish, I am just getting together all the parts and replacing worn out bits before I start rebuilding it again. I will try and get some photos on soon (if I can work out how). I think I have well and truly caught the bug now, oh dear! Trevor.

gunmetal forks and aheadsets were only specced for one year, which may explain the difficulties in finding them s/h
