1997 Kona Cinder Cone

Retro Newbie
This was my first 'proper' bike, which I built in the first half of 1998 when I was 14 years old grafting for £2 an hour. It took about 6 months to fund my custom build. I've just re-built it back to about 90% of the original spec I had, with just the bars and tyres being more modern. Everything has remained in fairly good condition apart from the kevlar saddle which is a bit weathered.

Still as much fun as it was back then!

Re:

Looks like a really nice bike - and a fun ride too I bet!

I remember working for £2 an hour back then...to save it all up for a ridiculously overpriced x-lite shiny bit!

Would be good to see some more photo's on your thread.

Re:

Cheers

Haha, yeh it took a few weekends of work to get one xtr brake! instant celeb status though!

I will get some better photos up. I have the other Velocity deep v rim for the back, just need to build it on to another hub as the original one is goosed. I originally had a 1x7 drivetrain with a 42t middleburn ring on the front (serious effort required) and a Sachs wavey shifter but I'm going to stick with single speed now I think.

Re:

Added a set of splash backs. A definite improvement over the (slightly) new age Halo Knobblers that I had on.
