Devout Dirtbag
I've recently built this up, with a bit of a mash up of parts of things I've had and thanks to bits I've bought from a few people on here and ebay.

The frame is a 1997 team xt, sadly I've not got a full xt groupset but I'm planning on upgrading a few parts here and there, trying to keep it true to the period and the bling bits I wanted at the time. (Real levers!).
First on the list though is definitely a seatpost, this was just the cheapest one I could find as I wasn't sure of the size, and I think the ubiquitous flite saddle is in order.

After a couple of rides I can say I am massively pleased with it. I love steel and this frame feels awesome, pretty lightweight thanks to the OX3 tubing and none of the harshness i associate with alloy frames. I seem to have dented one of the rims already. They actually date from my 1995 parkpre so have done pretty well, so maybe thats an upgrade too, would love some of the dark ceramic mavic rims on some nice hubs...

thanks, yeah I'm not sure where its coming from! I've tried to get fairly light stuff. The frame is about 2.2kg. I'm thinking new tyres and wheels should help. Could be my pound shop scales

A fantastic looking bike, nice one!

you sould be looking in the 25lb area with that frame weight, 26lb max, probably going towards 24lb given the forks...

Looks great!

Tyres & tubes can hide a lot of weight, as can other parts like stems, seatposts, saddles...

Only way to find out where the weight is is by weighing components and looking at how much replacement parts weigh, tyres and tubes can hide 200-300g each wheel

I'd blame the scales ;)

The innertubes are light, should be 130g by the name of them.
Onza Aggro (honch on the back as well or both the front aggro ?) as around 620g/670g depending on kevalr or not and is a hardpack/sandy designed tyre.
heavier than a rip/rail setup.

Atill in amber wall, they look the part and should be great in the dry.

A good pair of XT 737/Mavic X#17's, DB spoke wheels would do the job there nicely

Superb looking bike, with the Rocky Mountainish shape and great colour scheme.

If you like the way it rides, I wouldn't be concerned about the weight. After all, you haven't built it up with Onza Aggro tyres etc because you were majoring on light weight. It would be interesting to know what the frame weighs - I would guess not less than 4.5lbs if that's a size 19. And I think they were building Judy SLs a bit heavier by that time, perhaps reacting to complaints of too much flex in earlier years. FWIW, my estimate of the overall weight based on an itemised list of the individual items would be c27lbs, so not far off your actual.

Obviously you could take it a lot lower if that was your priority, and the wheels and tyres would offer the greatest potential for weight savings. But you could make a lot of savings and yet you might find you didn't like riding it any better than you do now.
