1997 GT Lightning

Didn't get much done yesterday despite being off work. I did finally dig these extremely rare brakes out of their box though and clean them ready.

Beginning to look like a bike now. Odd as it may seem, I wanted to use the 8speed XTR stuff I thought I had, but it's all actually 9. I don't have a front mech this size either in m95* so had to settle for a slightly newer M960.
And anyone that knows these bikes knows you need a 27.4mm seat post - which I don't have. The humble old can is doing the job for now and it's a perfect fit.

Lightning Seatposts have given me so much grief.

27.4 in Thomson - too big
27.2 in Thomson - too small
27.2 Syncros - too small
27.4 kalloy - too small

And back to the standard post which fits perfectly. It actually measures 27.35

Is this with the alloy sleeve people talk of? Mine is thicker tube from the top to about 4" down, then thinner, but not obvious of there being a difference in material.

Lovely frame and new kit…struggle with the decals, look like they are trying too hard….or something like that?!

So I've been busy over the last few weeks, holiday, work etc.
Not a lot of progress but have changed the forks for these rather nice SID's. They have raised the front end a bit more than it should be but a ride up and down the street feels ok. IMG_9897.webp

The wheels were bugging me and the rims are worn anyway - it's all wrong:

Much better.

Next up is to sort the shifting, I'm not sure the chainrings are that well suited to 9 speed.
Oh and rebuild the rear wheel.
