1996 Lava Dome in option burnt orange

Bear in mind that this bike has been sensibly up-graded to 9-speed LX and it has LX/XT/517 wheels. OK, it's less retro than an all-original bike, but Lava Domes were often sold with some pretty iffy kit on them, but that was always the deal - high-quality frame plus iffy kit at a medium price was what made the Lava Dome the ultimate upgradeable bike. OK, this one's been upgraded, that's what you're supposed to do - and this owner has had the good sense to keep the original triple-butted P2s on it and spend his upgrading money on the drivetrain, brakes and wheels. I don't see how he can be faulted on that.

£255 isn't much for a bike of this quality and that is so useable as this IMHO. Try going down to Halfords and beating it!

You don't get much for £250 at "new" prices.

That's Ebay for you: Sometimes stuff goes for peanuts; other times, not.
Original forks; decent kit; The nicest style frame logos (IMO)...
And this copper colour was always very nice... It's still a good price.

No, I wasnt the winner, I was willing to go to £300 but no more.
I know I was willing to pay over the odds because thats the colour ive been after, but I wouldnt go any higher, as some do turn up, and I can look for a different colour really.

Still £410 did seem a bit too rich really.
Good luck to the new owner, and I hope he has great joy in it.

My guess is this will have been bought by someone who didn't want to have to do anything to their new bike and who wanted a fast and fun commuter with goodish parts that could handle a bit of off-road. £410 is obviously a result of auction dynamics, but you could do a lot worse even at that price.

The burnt orange frames aren't impossibly rare though and the one for you is surely one with fairly hopeless kit that wouldn't appeal to the buyer of this one?
