1996 Kona Koa restoration project

Retro Newbie
Just sharing the start of my restoration project on what is a surprisingly original 1996 Kona Koa. The photos tell the story. The only things that aren't original are the tyres and the grips.
The headset and BB are sound so I'll leave those alone. The front mech is toast so a replacement is the only option there. A few cosmetic replacements such as the seat post collar bolt, new cables and a bit of TLC and it should be alright.
I have always loved Kona bikes and my old 1998 Muni Mula remains one of my all time favourites.
A bit of elbow grease and I think it will look good.
What are people's thoughts on staying as close to stock as possible or consider some upgrades? I was thinking of some period correct v-brakes possibly.
I'll just be pleased to get a really well made bike back to its former glory.
I'll post some updates as it comes along.

Very good Project. It is looking great.
I have just put my 1995 Kona Koa up for sale on Ebay.... as I need the room. My bike is in excellent condition with all the original manufactured parts.

You've looked after that well. Such a lovely looking bike. I'm sure it will sell!

Thanks, I have reached out to Kona themselves, asking if they wanted it as a retro showroom/museum piece. (I am almost happy to give it back to them!) Unfortunately I have not heard back from their European office yet.:)
