1995 M-trax ti 1000 (First Build)

Hello all,

This is my first build. It has quite a few modern parts as it is going to be used as my summer bike. In total its cost about £300 to put together. Most of the parts are used (some from Retrobike forums) to keep cost to a minimum where possible.

I intend to change the seatpost to a layback version due to the seatpost geometry (i like a nice flat seat). Maybe some thinner & lighter tyres too.
I might be able to get the weight down to 10.5kg with these changes.

Having done the calculations online the head angle has changed from 71.5 to around 70.5 degrees with the suspension fork.

I will hopefully post some pictures this weekend.

First Picture

This is a picture from its first run out.

I was surprised how comfortable it was. I was expecting it to be really uncomfortable compared to my FS.

One thing i have noticed is that it feels a lot more direct on the steering.

I did have one moment of fun however...while climbing the chain snapped at the "missing link" point...and being clipped in i subsequently toppled over.

Oh. a warning to others regarding the tyres. I was sliding all over the place regardless of surface. it was lateral grip rather than wheelspin though.

hi terry,

your bike was the inspiration for me to build the m-trax. it looks stunning.

i will have to get some better pictures up as the camera phone doesnt like the woods :D

i might try and give it a polish first though as its not quite as shiny as yours ;)
 
Nice bike but get us some better pics.

What do you think of the Rond forks :?:

I've got a pair of Quake air's and love them to bits, cheap,light & easy to work on :D
 
so far the forks have been fantastic. they really grip the terrain.
my other bikes forks are like a pogo stick comparatively.

i bought them from someone off this forum but have only just fitted them.

I havent dared take them apart yet but i think it could be time for a quick service. it holds pressure but there is a little bit of "sticktion" at the start of its travel (i guess it just needs lubricating).

obviously im reluctant to hand over £25 to a shop for this ;)

your bike was the inspiration for me to build the m-trax

Wow, really? That's quite an honour. Yours looks fab! The light weight can really give some people a shock, you can really get it to accelerate fast uphill. I find it very involving and it responds well to finesse - it's less keen on being blindly hammered down a rocky track by someone more used to a full suspension bike.
