1995 Kona Explosif

Lovely bike... definitely wouldn't be losing the Maguras if it were me, they're great! Appreciate the hoses don't exactly fit the aesthetic though.

Update on the post removal…realised the post wouldn’t drop due to a very thin amount of alu still stuck to the seat tube, I’d thought it was just due to being dirty after all the treatment. The brownness is due to me using some old wet and dry to see what it was that had rust on it.

So I’m going to need to re apply the caustic soda and get the last bit out. I’m pretty sure the post wouldnt of come out with a professional puller it was in well bonded.

Do the pros say they can get every post out???
The pros do not guarantee every post can be removed by their machine puller but somethng like 95% plus. You really need to ream out the seat tube after removal to do the job thoroughly.

Just looked up "The Seat Post Man" and as of 2001 he was quoting over 1800 consecutive successful removals.

For me, using the Ealing bike shop that I used cost me £80 and made total sense on the fairly pristine Genesis Equilibrium frame that I had bought for £80 and sold for over £350 once the seat post had been removed. I could not risk damaging the frame with caustic soda.

However I have a 95 Hahana frame that has the remnants of a stuck post that is not worth £80 so I will be trying the soda method on that one soon.

Yeah the levers are not matching and the front one is the magura fork specific one, so not an option on the P2s. The cabling looks to heavy compared to the slight tubes....and I do not like the lever/canti looks either. Great feel and strength though

If the paint had been significantly better I would of invested in the pro doing it, but it may well either be touched up or possibly a respray, so I'd prefer to put £100 towards a respray than the seat post removed. I should of really applied man maths and paid for both!!

Suns finally out so a few pics of the paint issues. Rub marks from panniers/carry bags are my thoughts. Need to decide on which option I prefer:
1. Prep metal and touch up
2. Prep metal and lacquer the exposed metal.
3. Get a respray done professionally
4. Do a respray myself

I’m not really wanting the bike to turn into a minter that I’m worried to scratch. I have my Diamondback TT as my stock minter.

wooohhooo seatpost is fully removed and the replacement (sudden eBay purchase) installed. Also completed some emergency touch ups.

I’m usually a 17 inch kinda guy but with this being a 19 I’m loving how much of the post is showing for some reason?

I wish my 19" konas had so little post showing. At 6'2" I have a country mile out.
I'm still very jealous of your explosif.
I have a seat post to remove from an old GT. I started with hacksaw blades to cut a slice out a few years back, but gave up and never found the impetus to get going again.
You said you'd do things differently if you did it again. You maybe even threatened a separate post... Did you manage anything along those lines yet?

Personally, I think I’d do whatever is necessary to protect the paint damage from worsening/the frame from corrosion and use that as is. It’s only original once, and if you find later that you really love it you can fork out for new paint I guess.
