Yesterday I built up the front wheel, and it's light. 550 grams. I weighed the original wheel and it is 810 grams. I'm hoping to get the rear built sometime this week.

Stans ZTR 355 rim, Circus Monkey hub, Sapim Laser spokes, Sapim nipples

I didn't get a photo of it complete since it was late...

The wheels are done! The final weight is 1290 grams for the pair! I still need a bunch of parts, but getting the wheels built and tires mounted feels like a big step forward. I was able to finally sit on the bike last night and get some more measurements for my setup.

Pardon the floor. The tile was laid yesterday and the grout will be finished up today. Finally!

Finished! My silver XT rear derailleur finally arrived on Friday and I was able to take the bike out last night for a short ride. The 10 speed XT system had no clearance issues, and all worked well with the Cook Bros crankset with Vuelta and Real rings. The rear suspension was smooth and felt pretty efficient, and the front was, well, interesting. The Judy has springs, and when the springs rebound and top out, they clunk. I'm not sure if there is anything to do about it, but if I make this bike a frequent rider, I will get the Risse Racing Gem installed. Otherwise, the springs weren't all that bad. It was certainly fun to be on the bike again after 18-ish years apart.

Thanks! Yes, I did... forgot to mention that. 26.5 pounds, or for you guys over there, about 12 kg. That's with everything on it in the photo above except the Garmin and tool/tube pack, and bottle of course. I'm hitting the trails again tonight and will take more photos with a real camera.

This thing is a lot of fun. I got a bunch of PRs on my ride last night, and it was smooth going 41+ MPH (66 KMH). It is slower than my 29er on the flats, but faster on the twisty stuff. Could be the difference between hardtail and full suspension when the downhill sections are rough. Whatever, I'm glad I spent the time and money on it. At some point I will for sure replace the fork springs with a Risse Gem.

It's looking great, a real interesting mix of old & new, which obviously works very well together.
Also good to see a retro-bike that is getting put through it's paces and used as it's supposed to be, it's quite surprising how well these older bikes can compete with more modern machinery in some situations :)
