1994 Specialized S-Works FSR

Coming on nicely.

Interested in how you rack/hang your wheels :)

Re:

Some more progress made.

Easy install of the Specialized bars - possibly not the team edition as per the original catalogue spec, but more likely next in spec range so close enough.

Brakes - going with catalogue spec Avids here. As I am lacking the original rocker for the fork brace (and would actually prefer the taller fork brace with cable stop if I could find one), I’m having to use a Tektro rocker - which I’ve had to cut down as it is designed to feed through a full fork thickness rather than just a brace.

Fronts fitted no problem.

Rear brakes however have thrown up a bit of a challenge, especially when you consider I believe these to be catalogue correct. The drive side cantilever very slightly catches on the rear mech cable guide?! I’ve tried installing a washer to lift it clear, but all that does is cause the canti to bind, so that won’t work.

There is a chance that when cables up and under proper tension it may not foul, so I’m going to leave it as is for now - but a rethink may be in order later down the line...

Popped the XTR front and rear mechs on. Other than a chain, cassette and cable outers, that’s it for XTR on this build now.

Up to the cockpit end, and this is where I’ll have a slight deviation from catalogue spec...The spec correct Dia-Compe PC8 levers aren’t as pretty as they could be, so I’ve gone for this gorgeous set of Avid Ultimate SLs - to match the cantilevers.

Shifters - now I know many will disapprove, but I’ve stuck with catalogue here and gone with gripshift. Mainly because I had these in my spares box and have owned them from new c.’96! All they required is change of grips and they are fitted.

That’s all for now!

Small update:

Chain attached, gear and brake cables installed - using XTR outers where possible. Final adjustments not done yet but shouldn't need much more than a few tweaks to get both gears and brakes working nicely :)
Note to others working with GripShift...make sure to install cables before you install handle bar grips, as you need to open the casement up to feed the cables around (rear primarily)! Luckily I remembered this little installation gem ;)

Pleased to report that the rear Avid canti's sit far enough out that they don't foul with the cable guide :)

Final touch for this visit was to install the S-Works grips ;) Plenty of brand names in this pic!

I’ve put some wheels on for now, complete with used Umma Gummas, but neither are intended for the final spec, I’ll have to wait a little longer for that ;)

Finally assembled and into the daylight!
