1994 Manitou DH, Beneke Replica

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Looks like around £500 with shipping if sent to Fred to repair. There are people over here that can do repairs but look like they'd mend the crack rather than replace and it will discolour the section. Bound to be cheaper though (you'd think).

Not sure about the reducer with the EFC forks, not checked if standard crowns will fit the lowers, they do look different to the 3's I have here.

Never had a disc drive but they sound good, no idea how sturdy they are.

He has a bad back/neck hence the suspension frame but retro steel seem to have enough give, at least the Kona has. So may end up turning in to a paper weight and going for a HT

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

I think most people will tell you the same, the disc drive looks cool, but are super fragile, they were not strong when new, 20 yrs will have taken its toll.
I think the problem is the cord used, I know a lot had a tendency to buckle and fold.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

OK thanks, so no point spending silly money on one, not that I would have done anyway. I have NOS hubs and rims already so it's not that I need one, just fancy one.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Danson76 sorted mine...

The frame is anodised silver after welding so that's why it's super shiny

I decided I could live without a tiny section of headtube that showed where it had been welded, it cost less than £60 with shipping...

Let's be fair, they crack because for the most part the 1 1/; headtube isn't reamed properly and the material is brittle... Danson reamed mine out properly (despite it supposed to already be the right size) and if it cracks again so be it...

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

OK thanks. Sounds like a good option. If I don't like they way it turns out and happen to win the lottery  I can always go the Fred route later. Being realistic, spending another £500'ish on it just isn't worth it to me.

Says the user doesn't exist when trying to add him to a PM. Would be interesting to see the repair on yours if you have pics.
