1994 Manitou DH, Beneke Replica

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Looks like I'm going to do the artwork for the replacement decals. The ones Gil has on file aren't close enough, perhaps mine are early ones, don't know. Should be easier for me to get them matching when I can compare them directly rather than Gil via photos. Well that's the plan.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Gil should have the correct main Manitou logo on file. I re-did one for my 1994 Manitou FS and this one is spot-on as far as size and font (the logo did change slightly over the years) the only change on yours compared to the "regular" FS is the DH logo in red overlaying the Manitou logo. Ask him for the file he did for syncrosfan not the regular file he has for the Manitou FS. The only thing you would need to change would be the DH in red.

Re:

No, he sent what he had on file and it's not really that close including some of the dimensions. He also has a couple of "Easton" decals in his set that aren't on my frame and I have one on the downtube that's not in his. It's as though it's for a different iteration as the chain stay decals in his set are black.

Anyway it's not a big deal (hopefully) and, once I've done it, he can add it to his collection.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Well wouldn't you know it. Had finally got around to starting on the artwork for the decals and found a hairline crack on the headtube.

My brother was over today and we took off the tape holding the headset parts together and noticed it. Not sure if the tape hid it (if it was then not saying it was done on purpose) or if I just just missed it as it's hard to see depending on the light. But it's there and definitely not just a scratch. Half thought it was probably a mistake getting one, should have listened to myself!

So change of plan.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Had to get the light right to photo it, normally it's not as obvious. Although once you've seen it, it is of course. I might have looked at it wrong ;)

Well the new plan is back to the original one, a steel hard tail. My brother's fine on the Hot I built for my other brother, he just has problems with modern ones that are quite a bit stiffer (bigger tubes etc). Don't suppose I'll find another Hot but will see what turns up. Still want a Tioga Disc Drive as that will soften it a bit more.

Would have liked to sorted it by Christmas but that's pushing it now.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Yep, that's a cracker :(

But its in the smallest part of the head tube, should be an easy repair.

That's why all mine run or will run 1.1/4>1.1/8 reducer rings.

Are you sure you don't have a death wish? wanting to ride an early Manitou AND a Disc drive

My 97 HT would make a nice ride for your Bro ;)
