It took most of the afternoon, but I managed to rebuild the rear wheel. I thought it went OK for a first attempt. Will make a start on the front tomorrow if I have time.
I encountered a slight issue with my wheel rebuilding plan today in that the XT front hub is in fact a different diameter to the original so I may need some longer spokes. I was eager to get the original front wheel back on there and the bike useable again so I just trued the original wheel. Will do the rebuild in the near future. I just want to ride it for now.

Lovely build, well done. My first "proper" mountain bike was a 94 FM back in the day and I loved it to bits, rode hundreds of miles on it. All I have of it now is the handlebar and a couple of the decals on my toolbox.
