1993 Orange Prestige

Re: 1993 Orange Prestige

For anyone counting that is 446g lost so far, pretty much a pound :D
Next up is the Crankset/BB, I'm awaiting a few bits to arrive but should save a bit there! :D

Re:

The last 8g to take it over a lb saved so far were bugging me  thankfully there's a few bolts I can replace. Saddle clamp, handlebar clamp and bottle cage screws replaced with alloy/titanium. Another 17g off :D

Re: 1993 Orange Prestige - Weenie rebuild

Thanks MR OX, it's going well I think! Honestly with the spec it already had I didn't think I'd lose a lot, maybe a couple of lb altogether, so better than thought already :D

Today is the turn of the BB. Out with the UN-91 at 236g, in with a budget blowing Royce Ti at 184g, another 52g gone!

Re:

Very nice, i'm looking at maybe purchasing a Royce for my next build as they're just down the road from me.

Re: 1993 Orange Prestige - Weenie rebuild

It does seem like an extremely well made bit of kit. I didn't think it was cheap but has been refurbished by Royce and came with some lovely crank bolts in it's original box. Even had a sticker! Having looked at the new price since I think it was a bargain at £80.

Re: 1993 Orange Prestige - Weenie rebuild

That's another 617g removed bringing the total to 1132g lost so far!
There's not much to go, just the crankset and tubes/rim tape, I'm hoping I can take another 230g to make it 3lb lost! I think it should be possible but I'll find out soon enough!

Re:

Wow! it all adds up doesn't it.

Seeing this build has spurred me on to get my '93 Prestige back to rideable condition before the summer :D

Hehe, back in the day I drilled my crank arms and chainrings to shed vital grams , I'm not ruling it out now...

Re:

That is impressive work, I like the scientific approach there. Do you know what the frame & fork weigh to begin with?

Cheers
Matt
