1993 carrera fury

Retro Newbie
As I've mentioned I haven't got a clue when it comes to second hand bike prices but I've seen a nice looking 2003 carrera fury in yellow and silver looks in good condition from the pictures so what do you guys think they are worth [/i]

its all very subjective of course, but then the bike looks to be in very good condition and ready to roll, with perhaps only new grips needed. seems to have been cared for at some point too judging by the braided cable outers and jagwire end caps.

not particularly retro or being carrera IMO desireable. Full deore groupset decent quality and will last is cool, pilot forks are a bit basic and bouncey but i have a set and love em.

it depends how much you want it, there is an offer in and it is only just listed.
go too low he is gonna think the other guys bid looks good and go for that.

go for around £165 or 175 i reckon

Cheers for the reply I'm not looking for an expensive bike like I've said looking around £150 to spend is going to be used for work 4 miles a day and then the odd bike ride,so for this amount of money what would you be looking at

its seems you're not too arsed about the retro pre 98 thang you just want a solid dependable bike. it also seems like you dont want to be fettling and replacing things too much

The Carrera is just that, its gonna last and last, frame is most likely made by Merida so quality too. it has disc mounts so if you love it you can upgrade, if you hate the bike you can split it and easily make your money back or sell as a whole.

I wouldnt know how to answer your question becuase half the fun for me is building up a bike and sourcing parts.

For £150 here on a decent modernish bike you are most likely gona need to be replacing a few parts adding to your budget.

I got this for a friend from here for £90, she has the same budget as you.

to make it pretty and girly im probably gonna be spending around £60-70 on top but then as said thats my fun and all my labour is free.

quality wise it will be similar to that fury, solid and dependable and low maintenance

if the carrera is close to you, little hassle and expense collecting go for it.
if your not in a mad hurry see what else comes up on here post 98 section.

What do you recommend saddle wise and prices the last time I owned a bike was 20 years ago,how do halfords measure up price wise for accessories servicing etc

right, halfords also known as halfrauds, hellfrauds avoid at all costs.

Now i have a cousin in law used to be a halfords mechanic, he is a cyclocross, road bike mtb fanatic, olympic tryouts amazing cyclist. cycling since he was born type thing. He was a halford mechanic and manager and i would trust him with my bike any day of the week.

there are also a good few members here did their stint at hellfrauds who seriously know their bikes, so its not all

however the majority of mechanics at hellfrauds are 16 years old, retarded or both.

local bike shops (LBS) needs support, im on my way to one now to replace 7 spokes and a true as i cant do wheels, but their labour isnt cheap. go to a well established LBS over halfords any day of the week. They arent cheap but will still be cheaper then halfords, think about £25 an hour for labour. e.g wheel true £10-15. full service replacing all cables £35 type thing.

do a search here for the word halfords and see what comes up

you found your way here and there is a wealth of knowledge here to deal with any bike problem, so i would say get a basic bike took kit and ask. Bikes aren't really that complicated i think.

saddles, again it really really depends.

if you havent been on a bike for 20 years use the sofa attached to the fury, your arse is going to hurt in any case. When you have a few miles under your belt you may well find that soft squishy thing a chaffing annoyance.

saddles are very personal and trial and error you see. I like flites, my arse likes flites. looking at them they dont really give much support as they are skinny things, but for some reason that works. many people like charge spoons which seems to suit a lot of arses. I have recently tried a charge spoon and it hurts my arse and thighs, but im going to persevere with it. there is no rhyme or reason to what saddle will suit you IMO. e.g then i also ride an x-lite saddle, a ponza saddle, a devo saddle

I have found that if you sit on anything long enough your arse gets used to it, not in a gay way you understand, but not that there is anything wrong with that sort of thing.

the good thing is that in the course of peoples trial and error trying to find a saddle that suits you will get many hardly used ones on the bay very cheap.
