1992 Rocky Mtn Blizzard - Bike auction find

I've been holding back that little piece of info on purpose. Not sure anyone would buy it from me if they knew the deal I got. ;)

Just took it out for a little spin. Runs a little rough, as expected but shifts decent enough. I need to go buy some grease tomorrow and start the tune up. Any recommendations?

I confused the shifters though. They are not rapid-fire, but thumb shifters. So this will be the first to go. What would be a correct-era model replacement?

Thanks for your continued help and patience with all my noob questions.

It wouldn't be relevant. It doesn't affect the actual value of what you've got at all.

Go on. How little did you snap this beauty up for?

Those are first gen Shimano "push-push" rapid fire triggers, not thumbs shifters which mount above the bar. unless you decide to mount them upside down and backwards. :p

Indeed. These are 2nd gen Deore XT STI (Shimano Total Integration) brake / shifter units. 1st gen, didn't have the servo-wave braking upgrade with the little window in the brake lever like yours have. This puts them at 1991 as this is when servo-wave was released...

Thanks for the clarification. My head is spinning from looking at everything available on ebay and Amazon. Also found out the middle chainring on my Kona is bent out of whack so I'll have the joy of trying to replace that now too. Bonus is that I'm going to learn a lot as I go.

And for all those that are interested, I picked up this beauty for $45 CDN! I nearly had it for $25 but some guy jumped in but my wife quickly guilted him out of "stealing" her bike. lol

Nothing wrong with buying something for cheap and selling it for more... some people seem to be bothered when someone buys a bike for $100 and sells it for $500... I have no idea why??

What do you think every store in the world does to make money :D

Holy fecking crap - 45CDN?!

That's about 25 GBP! What a bargain, bargain, bargain - far better than my Bonty Race Lite for £110 a while back!!!!

Good luck to you - nothing wrong with splitting it up and making some profit. If you do split it, I'll have the forks for £2.50 please

I currently live in Chilliwack, an hour east of Vancouver. Plan to move back to Cranbrook or somewhere else in the East Kootenays in the hopefully not too distant future though.

My family moved to Cranhole and I tried for a few years myself and came back to Van. I didn't like Cranbrook one bit. I'd go for Fernie

Well, reluctantly I have decided to sell my Blizzard. I've received lots of interest so I know it will go to a good home. Most interest has been for the frame or forks so I'll probably part it out, but if anyone is interested in the complete bike please let me know.

As soon as I get some dry weather I'm going to take some more photos to show the condition of the frame/forks, etc. I will also respond to anyone who previously pm'd me about their interest over the next couple of days.

I also want to thank everyone who contributed to the discussion here. You helped me get excited about biking again and i hope, in the hopefully not too distant future to pick up another when I have the space to work on it and have my own bit of Rocky Mtn history. Until then, someone should get to enjoy this one.
