This is what i use, GT85 then green scotch cloth then black then brown and finally autosol.Thanks. I’ll give that a go.
Thanks for the tip. Will use that method on some XT thumbies that I need to clean today. This is what i use, GT85 then green scotch cloth then black then brown and finally autosol.
GT85 to remove the dirt, green takes off the oxidation but leaves scratches. Black then starts removing the scratches and giving a shine. Then the very fine brown cloth takes most remaining scratches out and gives a really nice shine, finish off by using the autosol. Takes time and patience but worth the effort. You can do that method on pretty much most of Shimanos parts Deore MT60/MT 62/650/Deore XT M730/M732/M735 etc and you get the same results.
I agree, she looks 'bob on'. Despite being lower in the Kona range, these 92 Lava Dome look fab in this colour. These were really popular in their time. I bet many a lad had these as entry level race bikes.Looking better than original
I’ve been using your method. Working well so far. This is what i use, GT85 then green scotch cloth then black then brown and finally autosol.

It does take quite a bit of time but for me the end result is always rewarding for the effort put inI’ve been using your method. Working well so far.
I wish there was a short cut . It’s amazing how much grime builds up on the old components. Multiple passes with autosol and still there are black streaks coming out.
I am trying belgom alu as a final coat as it contains wax, apparently it will protect the shine a bit longer. Let’s see.
You'll have to replicate the photo once it's all done for old times sake.I've only gone and finally found one in my size!!
A 91 Lava Dome. Even came with original bill of sale!!
Im itching to restore it, and possibly recreate the pic of me @17 back in 92, on my original Lava Dome.
