1992 Kona Lavadome (finished pics page 4)

Quite a bit of progress done today with a minor disaster along the way, stupid plastic shimano bottom bracket what a stupid design lol
So the horseshoe has been resprayed and is looking good again. Bottom bracket was fitted then tightening the non driveside plastic cup disaster, with no warning the teeth sheered off 🤬 So half an hour of faffing around and it came back out with no damage to the threads phew lol This time i used the metal version and in it went no problem, note to self never use plastic ones because they're crap.
On went the chainset with new crank bolts, gonna put some polish on the arms to see if i can get a nice shine on them.
My 93 Firemountain had some Deore LX pedals so i nicked them and they go nicely with the other Deore LX parts.
Now the cockpit area i had some Shimano Brifters there nowt special but there all black and work perfectly and give a clean look. Or i could go with Deore shifters and some Dia Compe ss5's which need a respray 🤔
I've went with green cables and nowts changing my mind they just look spot on with the black and purple and the Kona logo has green in it aswell 😊
Now onto the wheels, i found the back wheel which was from my 18" 93 Cindercone i got a while ago so black Deore LX hub and Bontrager BCX3 rim. Then i found the front wheel which is black hub Deore LX with Bontrager BCX1 rim. But then it dawned on me i have a full set of 93 Cindercone wheels which my 19" 93 Cindercone doesn't have and that would put it back to being all catalogue spec, so i may not use these in the end.
I do have some other black Deore LX wheels so i can still keep that look if i choose not to use these ones.
Also whilst rummaging around i found the Maximum and Reaction tyres again which this would've had on when new, so they'll be getting used.
All i'm waiting for now is the matching Deore LX front mech i bought to turn up and then i can fit the chain and it'll be ready to go on a test run.

With being off work had some time to sort the brake levers and give them a few coats of paint to tidy them up and put my favourite grips on and that's the cockpit area sorted out.
Gave the crank arms a polish and they look better even done the rear mech lol

Looks good. Those thumbshifters look shiny aswell.
What paint do you use on the levers?

Yeah there nice and shiny, i've worked out a way to get them like that by using three different scotch cloths each one finer and then i use autosol. Takes a bit of time but always comes up nice and shiny. Paint, i've been using Halfords matt black then a couple of coats of Halfords clear lacquer.
