Great score Chris - I look forward to watching progress :)

Cheers Si,it should be a good one because everything seems to be in good condition and original to the bike bar the back wheel.
Not 100 % sure though if the XT short arm mech is when everything else is DX,there's not alot of info out there on them to go off.
Only thing i've found so far is a Google picture of one with slicks on and it's the same as mine but has a DX rear mech,93 Kilauea's though had a XT short arm mech so i might just keep it on :)

Excellent that's that bit confirmed then, what saddle has yours got? Is it the Avocet Racing 1 with yellow writing or did it have white writing?
Thanks

Re:

Ah...can't remember the original saddle. It got upgraded to a ti flite not long after I got it. And then that ended up in my dad's shed until he binned it!
Brakes were 986 front and 987 rear.
From stuff I read on the internets of truth that model was a bit of a transitional parts bin special as I don't think it appeared in the main catalog so a formal original spec might be tricky to pin down

Re:

Gave the Kilauea a bath to see what it would reveal.
Apart from where it's been touched up in places everything is in good condition, there's no dints or cracks and the decals are in great shape with next to no wear.
Next up clean all the BB,seatube and steerer tube and try and remove or make it less noticeable the ugly touch up paint.

The serial numbers on the BB are :
Small lettering: F2042048
Big lettering: 2I 40
3I 40

Re:

I still love that slightly purple cobalt blue. Got an old VFR750 in a similar colour.

Ended up pimping mine over the years with a spot of xtr and titanium. It came with a really long flat and heavy velocity stem which combined with the impact headset put a lot of weight forwards and the riding position made my neck ache.
Put a short kalloy stem on and an Odyssey headset which helped a lot.
The very short stack height on the Impact makes it tricky to replace.
Having said all that I still have most of the original bits in a Polly bag somewhere just in case..
The red label 7 speed cassette is very good btw
Cheers
Rich
