Picked this up absolutely ages ago because it was advertised as an Explosif so took a chance on it.
It's been left at work for donkeys and to be honest totally forgot about it 😕
I've been doing some checks today and i'm pretty sure my hunch was correct at that it was a 92 Explosif.
But can anyone help confirm it is.
I know the tubes are meant be oval at the ends so done two measurements on each tube, one from side to side and one from top and bottom of the tube,if that makes sense.
Toptube: Headtube end, 30.9mm & 34.09mm. Seat tube end 28.1mm & 30.1mm
Downtube: Headtube end, 34.2mm & 30.4mm. BB end 29.9mm & 28.09mm.

Serial number reads F1086729

It does have some issues though which can be fixed to get it sorted.

The bottom of the seat tube is bulged which is only on the Explosifs for that year and it has the F on the frame number signifiying the Kona factory in Taiwan so I’d say yes it is.

Yes mate, concept tubing and aug 91 serial so a '92 Explosif

🖕🖕🖕🖕
Cheers both of you, i'm glad i won this 92 Firemountain then, the Project Two's will be perfect for it because they're both 19 inch frames.
I'm glad it's an Explosif because i had a couple of build plans for it if it was one, it can join the other Konas i'm working on at the moment.
That's not just any old 93 Lavadome in the picture it's my original battered beat up one which i've had since new, it's gonna try and make a comeback again, wait till you see the battle scars on it, poor thing 🤣
I've got a special build thread in the pipeline which it will be making an appearance for the first time on Retrobike 😊

Another question, i've measured the stuck seatpost and it was 26.8mm,is that the correct size for the 92 Explosif.

Managed to get the stuck seatpost out and that was a 26.8mm but after cleaning the seatube when you put the post back in you can feel to much play side to side, which makes me think it will be more likely a 27.0mm post. Also looking down onto the seatube it did look like it had been pinched when clamped up. Only way to find out will be to clean the seatube properly and try a 27.0mm post.
