Hi,
Yesterday I was checking the local marketplace, which I'm not doing as much as I used to, and ran into a Klein Adept. It was offered as a Klein trekking bike but i could read "Adept" on the toptube. I was hooked immediately, and although funds are needed for more important things than old bikes at the moment, I couldn't resist making a phonecall early this morning, talking through the price and making an appointment to pick up the bike this afternoon.
The owner was a very nice gentleman of 82 years old. He and his wife offered me a cup of coffee, and we talked about cycling, bikes and Klein bikes especially. It turned out his wife also had an Adept until a few years back. They had bought the bikes new in 1992. They were about 55 years old then.
Unfortunately, the man's physical condition has changed considerably in the last few years. Therefore he's made the decision to leave cycling for what it is and start hiking. I'm very happy for him that he'll still be able to enjoy the surroundings this way.
But ok, I've bought the bike and placed it, with a bit of his help, on the rear seat of my car. I could see it was a big moment for him. A last goodbye, to a great bike and to the great sport of cycling.
About the bike; it's black, has the old style decals and is completely original. The framenumber is ADE000128, which probably makes it the 128'th Adept produced. The frame is 21 inch. The Mc1 has rise and is about 135 mm long.
I haven't really got any plans with the bike at the moment, simply because I wasn't looking for one. But I'm very curious about the ride. For now, no pics yet, but I'll post some next week.
In the meantime, if you have any info about your own Adept, feel free to use this topic to post info and pics.
Cheers,
Remko
