Thanks for the compliments Sir, but no more photos, at least not until I’ve installed the front arches of the Magura boosters, bagged the matching Elite black stubby bottle I’m watching on eBay and.... put the front QR back on the correct way around.

Otherwise uncle Spud’u’like will chastise me.....

Re: 1991 Claud Butler Antaeus 653 Magnum FINISHED

So I thought I’d have a crack at re-constituting the Panaracer Pros as these NOS (yes they came with the packaging label) were showing that white bloom on the surface. So after reading Regan’s thread on the subject viewtopic.php?f=1&t=392821 I thought I’d give it a go..... 12 minuets of abject fear!!!!
But I’m chuffed with the result!

That worked well, have had some tyres looking like that in the past with the white bloom appearing to be crumbling rubber and not release agent or any such stuff the explanation made logical sense to me.

Carl.

Carl.

I also initially thought it was mould or some kind of release agent, but no, it’s an integral part of the rubbers chemical make-up.
I was nervous though & did a test bake with an old worn tyre to see if the all important earlier flame graphic would survive.... it did, obviously.

Handy tip. You need all windows open, plenty of air fresheners and make sure the wife’s gone to work!
To make double sure I’m taking her out for a meal tonight so as not to use the cooker this evening ;)

I've got some NOS tyres that are almost white -there's that much wax on them and have been following the Welsh Wizards thread closely I haven't had the opportunity to test it for myself... and waiting for someone else to go first

Hope you post your results on his thread as its a great way to save tyres

and finally thanks for your understanding on the Front skewer I did have nightmares about it

Re: 1991 Claud Butler Antaeus 653 Magnum FINISHED

So, I've been a good boy and finished all my jobs, kids are at Nana’s and Mrs Peachy is digging up some Bay trees? (apparently quite happily) ;)
So, a quick post before I ensconce myself in the workshop… :D
First, I shall be treating my newly revived Panaracers with some new Conti Tubes :D

Then onto the cassette, the old 28t XT Hyperglide set had a bad 4th/11th/18th gear and the chain would slip/skip when under load, so I’ve taken the opportunity to give myself a bit more help with the steep stuff and found a NOS 32t XT 7spd Hyperglide, oh and an unobtrusive clear Shimano freehub protector. Front end will have this bike’s actual original set of black 26/36/46 SG chain rings curtesy of Legrandfromage himself… cheers Mark. :D

And last but not least, a matching Black Elite stubby bottle to sit with its buddy, both stamped as January 1992! From jimo746, Cheers James :D

Wowsers! That is a fine restoration, truely stunning.

Cheers OX,
Now before I pour myself a drink, a quick review of this evenings efforts;

First, the new cassette runs real smooth.....

Then, as if confirmation was required, proof the Legrandfromage was quite correct...all black rings do look great...

And just for RetroSpud, proof that I’ve put both Magura braces on and put the front QR on the right way...
