I've been trying my best to get a few personal bikes done among the neverending cadre of SSC projects and so after sitting around for a year the Potts finally got its day in the sun.
I picked up this bike on eBay last year for a unbelievable sum of $543. The seller was a former resident of Marin county where he bought the bike directly from Steve after the original buyer failed to complete a deal. The current owner had moved to a very small town in North Carolina and was not willing to ship the bike. As luck would have it I was going to NC later that week for work and make a quick side trip to pick up and pack the bike.
Here are few photos from the auction and when I picked it up. You can see that all the important bits were there, but in general the bike was a rather weak representation of the potential it had.
Frame, fork, stem and brakes all say the right things, but the rest of the parts were a bit odd in my opinion. The previous owner used it a lot as a stationary bike I guess.
I added WTB Chris King headset and WTB classic hubs laced to rolled down Bontrager MA40s, Specialized forged cranks, a Moots Ti bar masquerading as a WTB Ti bar while I get that sourced. Drivetrain is first generation XC-PRO, with a Suntour post and Shimano SPDs with Ritchey Z-MAX WCS 2.35 skins. Total weight is just under 25.5 lbs.
Here it is last week, nearly ready to go
Normally I'd go out and do a big photo shoot, with lots of models, a fabulous backdrop, and really highlight the beauty of the bike and all that. This time I went straight to the trails. Here are a few of the pics from the morning before the first ride and then some from the shakedown ride.
