1991 Kona Black

Scott-S

Retro Newbie
I had a search around and unfortunately the keywords for Kona, black and paint drowned me in results, none of which seemed to be relevant to my needs.

My (brand new to me today) 1991 Kona Lava Dome has some chip damage to the black paint that I'd like to repair, can anyone point me towards a colour code or even give any hints towards searching for a colour match as I said before I literally drowned under an avalanche of keyword results that weren't anywhere near relevant to what I was looking for.
Ive seen posts saying take to a paint store for a colour scan, but Im going to the plead thick old man here and say what do you mean by paint store defo not Halfords so Im assuming automotive paints shops?
Would anyone mind helping me out with keywords for a search to help me use in google to find such a place in Glasgow?

Many thanks for any help and advice for this out of touch and clueless old fool
Best Regards
Scott

Hi Scott -- congrats on scoring a classic! There's a huge amount of wisdom on these threads -- I'm pretty sure I've seen one about reproducing the early black Konas. I've never done a paint match but from what I've seen, the people who do it are the more specialist automotive ones, rather than Halfords -- although with black, you may find a rattlecan that matches. Getting the true match might be a bit more demanding than that, though.

How about a couple of photos of the bike? It helps to see the extent of the job.

Thanks moonlite, apologies I never thought to attach a picture.

It's pretty much only 1 section of the top tube and it looks like something was dropped on it judging by the soon to be replaced damaged cable.
Im going to treat it with kurust to kill the rust then get some kind of paint protection on it as soon as possible.
That's all the damage really even the chain stay is in remarkable condition so its had quite an easy life I would say.
I posted more pics showing the overall great condition of it on my thread here:

Haha no need -- I hadn't realised it was the same bike as the other thread! Looks like very localised damage which is good. Hopefully easier to patch & match.
