Popped to a nearby recycling centre the other day as my wife wanted to have a nose, and I saw this little beauty. First I saw it was a Trek but hadn't clocked the number, then saw the Shimano LX components and thought interesting, and then saw the actual number and thought I'll have that. £10.00 later (borrowed off the wife) I was the proud owner, and it fitted just about in to the back of my wife's car (she was a little bemused). Also after wheeling it back to the car I bumped in to another retrobike biker - Jimbo-XC who luckily had turned up on a motorbike so it would have been interesting if he had pipped me to it for him then to get it home :D .

I've stripped it down and the usual suspects were removed pretty easily - the seat post had to be removed via clamping it in a vice, but part I had the most trouble with was the front wheel. First the quick release lever sheered off, and then the nut on the other side. I managed ot removed the wheel in the end but it was a little fiddly.

I haven't decided what I will do with it. but apart from rust the components have had very little use.

If the bike fits, you have plenty of choices. Apart from the "new bike feeling", I don't get why people spend a fortune on new Surly or Rivendell bikes when there are plenty of early 90's Trek Singletracks around going very cheap, with excellent steel frame and beautiful lugs.

I have currently 3 (and another one I sold because it was too big):
-a '92 Trek 950, my first ever mtb, which is now my back-up mtb and expedition tourer for long trips with offroad bits
-a '91 Trek 950 which is my mtb when I go to visit my parents
-another '91 Trek 950 which is my wife's bike when we go to visit her parents (conveniently customized with very tall and short stem for comfort, plus mudguards, bell and lights)

Re:

Should scrub up well dude, wish I'd kept my red 950 with trek suspension forks :(

Saddle looks very comfy :)
