1990 saracen eiger bitsa

This was my first purchase from here last year sometime from the big cheese.

Just been sat in the shed while I've been doing other little projects.
Surface rust paint and stickers a Bit worse for wear. Made a start by wasting money on nitromors which is now officially crap. Used something else with much better results.
Bottom bracket removal was a huge pain in the bum. Lots of heat and a very long bar got it out in the end.
Been using various grades of scotchbrite mops to clean the frame up.......it will be staying plain steel finish

In the mean time I've been busy collecting the components to make it up into a mainly road going commuter.
95% of the bits have come from here so a big thanks to all those who advertise their bits in the for sale section.
Also the members I've badgered with seemingly idiotic questions

It's no means going to be a period build, I've got a modern part groupset for drive chain, smattering of lx, xt, original saracen, 1.5 red wall armadillos. Most bits have been purchased for around £10 or less so a budget build.
Colour mainly Grey's, blacks with bit of colour seat, tyres and bars.

Couple of days and I'll be ready for reassembly....

Finished prepping the frame and forks.....its not immaculate but certainly got character....

Quite like the grey gear of the lx570 so chainset and derailleurs were used.

Goes well with the naked steel

Set of lx pedals with toe clips and st.c straps

Last bit going on tonight will be this black lx canti set.

Using the saracen black seatpost, clamp and stem. The ano's faded and saracen logo not the best but not been able to find anything better at a reasonable price.
If anyone has an expander bolt for 22.2mm stem then I'd be happy to wing a payment your way

Bars and shifters next but got something bit different in mind.....just got to make sure it's what I want first.

Bar and stem looks good on the bike. Overall it looks a really clean build.

Raidan's raffle was great, got a syncros pin badge .

Did you clear coat the frame with lacquer or powder?

As this was an experimental exercise I bought some Gibbs brand spray and used that to help clean frame.
I want to see what it's like long term with a wipe over every now and then.

I did look into boiled linseed oil, various waxes, penetrol and such like.

Oh, that's interesting. Too much work for me - it'd look like crap in short order with the amount of rain around here. I could see that if I lived in the desert/very dry area. I've seen some clear powdercoated frames that look pretty good.

Got expander bolt sorted so used standard saracen stem.

New brake and gear cables, straddle wires, chain plus 12-28t cassette.

Changed the bars to some zoom brahma's

Thought I'd try something different and did a harlequin wrap on the bars. For a first attempt not too bad but will take it all off and try again, make symmetry between 2 sides better.

Just got to finish setting up the gears properly and get a shorter straddle for the rear and that'll do for now.

May try pick up another set of wheels.
