1990 Roberts White Spider - Columbus Off Road

There might need to be another change of plan with the paint.. Seatpost was proper rusted in there so half the seat tubes been burned up!

Going to sandback the tube and reassess but I'm now tempted to take it all back and just clear lacquer the raw frame and stick some Roberts decals underneath.
Custom Smoked Salmon Pink finish! 😜

Love the original pink colour, great patina and the frame must have some amazing tales to tell. 😎

You must be close by Winston to be able to see him in person! Now he must have some great tales to tell too! 👌

The original pink was so much brighter and its kinda crazy how faded it is. compared to its original shade.
Wish I was closer to winston but Its actually an hour journey each way on a good day to see him. Def worth seeing him at his workshop if you are ever in Hither Green

Close, but not that close then! I’m in West London, so again, close, but not that close. I Keep meaning to pop down and see him to see if he has any info on the ex Peugeot team bike I have which was built by Roberts.

Looking forward to seeing your bike come back together now that Winston has finished torching it! 👍

I wouldn't clear lacquer the raw steel frame unless you want some delicious ratty crust over time, because it will rust. I love crust so i say gun blue it and wax it.
This is actually quite a good shout. I didn't know about that stuff but the time spent getting that to be an even finish I might aswell just respray it myself.

If you want to prevent rust on steel I'd stick to getting it resprayed or respraying yourself. Anything from brushed on enamel paints to spray paints will do, a lacquer does not provide the same protection as a primed frame with top coats and then clear.
