1990 R.M.O. Gitane FINISHED! 9th May

Re:

Seat post arrived yesterday,

Had to get rid of that nasty logo, obviously. Along with the fine ribbing. Then time to polish it up, naturally,

Now fitted, with the older, better, less cheap looking saddle clamp.
All I need to do now is cut cables and put ends on!
Can't wait to try it out

Re:

very nice .

i would have gone with yellow bar tape and yellow rolls sadle .

you should be able to pick up some mavic/Simplex shifters very easily .

I have the MTB model .

tubes are Columbus MAX OR .

i love riding it . the position is just right .

Re: 1990 RMO Gitane, nearly finished, 27th April

Nice build :D
Is this too short for your needs?

I have a fluted seatpost for my RMO Gitane, think the black offsets the silver nicely.
Out of interest what is the BB have you got fitted, mine came with a Mavic threadless and the threads have not been touched.

That's nice,

Not seen a Gitane mtb before. I have a yellow Rolls, but being a more golden yellow it would have clashed with the pale frame stickers. Cinelli cork bar tape is a similar shade, but I prefer white. I put some Simplex shifters on it. Didn't work out though. See page 5

Thanks for the link ;)
I would have preferred to use a fluted post, but it needs at least to be at least 270mm long. The bottom bracket is the Campag one that came with the frame. I do have a Mavic cartridge bearing one as back up.
Waiting for a few final bits now.

Re:

Hello retro road folk ;)

Just finished this build, although I did go out on it last week before some final tweaks.

Did around 100km last Saturday, felt nice to ride, if a little odd at first. Mainly owing to the very aero brake levers

Which despite their looks and plasticiness are very comfortable, and work well. I was dubious as they felt cheap, and with the cable that threads through a guide from underneath the lever blade, was not expecting a great deal from them. Was pleasantly surprised though after their first proper test going down Ditchling Beacon.

Also the chainset looks a bit odd when riding the bike,

I really like the design though, I'm just used to standard Shimano style.

So, all in all, I'm pleased with how it rides, which is just as well. I have another long ride planned for it tomorrow!

Hope you like it ;)

Mike

Looks grand Mike.
Very nicely put together.

the chainset does look a bit odd, especially from the riders eye view, but vive la difference. ;)

Re:

Thanks fellas ;)

The only thing I'm not sure about are the 64/44 bars. Not as much reach when on the brake hoods as I was hoping for. 66's , are too deep when on the drops. These ones are good in that position.
But I'll persevere with them.

Mike

If you decide you don't get on with the 64-44 then I'd be happy to give them a new home

I'll bare it in mind. I do like riding on the drops though. Feel like a proper racer then !
