just won the above bike for £16 on ebay, its exactly the bike i had when i was 17! i'm very excited. frame wise, it will clean up lovely, but i'm going to need some bits. I'm wondering what is the easiest way to upgrade the gears and brakes. what should i be looking for. i'd like to keep it as period as possible. at the mo it has EXAGE COUNTY groupset, that looks and obviously is very cheap, but which deore groupset should i be thinking about? also, rims, going to need two of those.
any help would be hugely appreciated!

Don't diss the Exage. Vastly underrated, it was. Sort of like the Cinderella of groupsets.

dont get me wrong, when i had this bike before, and the lime green courier comp after it, i had exaage groupset, and it never let me down. i just wonder what quick fire push button changers i could go for, and how possible it is to put a 7 ring cassette on the back of mine.
i want the bike to be old school, just lightly upgraded. preferably with period parts, or within a couple years anyway.
and its pouring with rain here right now, and ill get some shots up tomorrow!

LOve to get hold of an old Courier Comp....gave mine away years ago and now regret it!

Exage was okay but very, very plasticky. Friend of mine had a Pathfinder and that came with suntour XCE, may have been a 1991 model though
