Koga miyata skyrunner cbl from 1990. This is the same frame as the gold plated 100th year anniversary model. It is also very similar to greg herbolds bike from a 1990 article ( https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/Manufacturer+Archive/Miyata/Articles/Elev10k/hb1C.jpg.html ) and I thought it would be cool to inspire my build on this bike. An exact copy is out of my league: frame, tioga disk drive, onza porcs..... so I am taking artistic liberties with my build ;)
Lately I have been hoarding parts and as everything is slowly coming together I thought it would be nice to start a build thread and document everything.
Shoutout to friends, family and the dutch mtb museum for helping me out so far!

This is how I got the bike, mostly originaliteit but pretty rough condition.
The clear coat on the carbon tubes was in good condition but the decals needed replacing.
The rear end and headtube needed to be restored. Last weekend I pearlblasted the frame. The rear end has the perfect colour and only needs a clearcoat. The headtube and seattube lugs need a good polish and a clearcoat. I hope to finish the frame later this week.
The detail pictures are after pearlblasting and some polishing.

Edit: somehow I am having troubles uploading some pics

I found exact copys of the motorcycle levers greg uses on his bike.
Original grip shifts are in their way from poland.
The hite rite was all rusted, now painted Black and I have polished the xt seatpost so both match the reference bike.

At first the wheelset looked beyond redemption, the bike had been outside for years and the hubs had plenty play.
Surprisingly the rear hub was in good condition and only needed service and a couple spokes needed replacing as they where damaged by the chain. The Front hub was much worse but after replacing the Ball bearings I found it acceptable, I might still change the conus.
The rims are araya rm17, the same ones from the reference bike.

Yesterday I had a good laugh with myself after installing the front brakes: I had used the noodle from the stem to guide the brake cable but, of course, this does not work with a suspension fork.
I looked online for a cable hanger but couldnt find a good looking solution, only from tektro which looked pretry decent.
This morning I checked the shed for a spare parts rond fork and got lucky. Altough they are different models the spacing between the bolts is the same.
