1990 Jack Taylor Tourist Tandem #8638 FINISHED pg7

7 days to go before the Jack Taylor ride, so I thought I’d better pull my finger out and crack on with the build!
And as usual, my belief that it will be a quick build up came to sudden halt as soon as I realised the new eccentric bottom bracket is 54.4mm in diameter as apposed to the original one being 53.6, so of course it doesn’t bloody fit!
So once again it’s back to the old part, only this one has a knackered UN54 stuck in it.
So after a couple of flats filed into the sides for a better fit in the vice, a blast from a can of Jenilite “freeze your nuts off” and some tappy tappy from the Irish screwdriver and all is well.

On to the stokers BB, a quick clean out with my trusty cyclo thread tap and in slipped a very good 2nd hand UN72.

Next problem; the patch on the chain stay is a bit too fat, but a handy 2.5mm spacer saved the day.

Cracking day out today at the annual “Jack Taylor Cycles Appreciation” ride. Lots of pleasant compliments and a few Vic Reaves style thigh rubs! 🤦‍♂️😁 we even finished with the lead peloton!
