1989 Rock Mountain Blizzard Slope

Great score. The early Blizzards always caught my eye but I was never lucky enough to see one outside of the magazines and catalogues. I love the 88's and 89's the most - double U ftw

Great score, especially since it´s so original. Yeah it´s a little worn, but it´s in good hands for a sympthetic resto!

Regarding the granite parts of paintjob: It looks like the white spots were sprayed on with a toothbrush? By that I mean running your thumb over the saturated bristles.

And having just completed the touch up of a white frame I can say that there´s more to it than just grabbing the next white can the hardware store has on the shelf. I was suprised how wrong a too white colour can look compared to OG paint.

Anyway, enough teaching grandma how to suck eggs, I´m in for this!

Suntour cassette is on order, wheels cleaning up quite nicely

For whatever reason whoever glued these on mounted the rear with logo on NDS, oh well, not worth removing and re-gluing IMO

Maybe to get more grip on the back for pedaling and more on the front for braking. At least that´s what we were doing with some of the directional tire profiles BITD.

Edit: Looking at the pics though it looks backwards from how I would have guessed🧐

Was wondering that as well, anyone serious about mounting tubs on an MTB BITD must have had some method to their madness right?

I'm appreciating any and all suggestions on this, Kinda like the tooth brush idea

(tooth brushes also being great tools to fling paint creating a splatter paint scheme, check out Paul's latest vid where he paints his new gravel bike, a few of us got to see it in the flesh at the recent swap meet, beautiful 😍)

I picked up an nice very dark blue that might be a good base coat yesterday and plan to experiment with some different techniques for the granite finish

I was planning to just use a Rustoleum white for the front triangle, you're thinking it should be more of an off-white?

Experimenting sounds good, part of the fun figuring how to get the best results!

I can´t really comment on the white you chose being ok for the Rocky. I was working on a C´dale and was just perplexed that the "pure" white I tried first was really standing out against the original colour. I could have sworn the OG colour was as white as it can be, it does not look gray- ish at all on its own. Granted it was a touch up job, so colour match was more critical than say spraying larger areas. But if I would have to paint the whole bike, I still would have picked a more off- white hue for fear of looking too "modern". But that may only be true for my specific frame (and my obsessiveness?).

All I can say is testing it against a polished and/or protected part of the frame (under the FD clamp?) will tell you if your chosen colour will be alright.

Very nice find! I have a love of these early Rocky bikes with radical sloping top tubes and U Brake forks! I have also started a 1994 Blizzard Project and will be watching your build carefully.
