1989 Diamondback Ascent EX

Cheers. Sounds like a good find Mahoney.

Giving the frame a little clean up today and spotted the numbers on the BB shell under the cable guide.
Anyone know anything about DB serial numbers?

Numbers look like 3A014
and
F9050514.

Re:

I'll check mine if you remind me, but from memory it also starts F90. It's the 1989 Axis in the picture above.

Thanks. There is a thread on here about it somewhere.
Serial is: 88M2069
I think the F90 one I was thinking of was an Explosif I used to own.

Cheers Rampage. So no obvious sequence in frame numbers then!

The few new parts needed for the build have arrived. :D
Just grips and cables were needed, but I thought I'd treat the old girl to some new tyres. Nothing looks quite so good as nice fresh amberwalls and as this will be a rider I didn't want to be sliding around on some perished old rubber.
So a pair of Smokes were ordered from our German friends.

and fitted.

Re:

Mine claims to be made in Japan. Yours is more like the Taiwan style serial numbers, so that could be why they are so different.

Not a huge update but progress on a couple of things. Rear hub is now spaced to 135mm. To save cannibalising a good hub I bought a 5mm spacer from SJS. The axle was just long enough to get away with it. :D Also got a better set of rings fitted to the crankset.

And thanks to Maksters Overburys build I now have instructions for the stem pulley.
