How does it ride?

Don't think the '88 frame was designed for suspension....

It rides fine, but you're right, I think the '88 frame predates pretty much all MTB front suspension

The slack head angle made me think that something was wrong/bent when I fitted the Rock Shox :shock: the stock rigid forks have a nice curved rake to them, the Mag21's are a straight line from the crown downwards.

I guess ideally a set of RS-1's would suit the age of the frame better, I think the Mag21 is from 1993 onwards?

The RS-1 is from 1990/1991....

I tried something like that with my '88 Stumpjumper Comp.. Didn't feel right...

A quick Google reveals that he did "design" some frames for larger manufacturers in the 80's, whether or not he made any of the "Team" frames??? maybe someone else will know?

Although I see where you are coming from, as the image below is a frame by Mark Dinucci... an uncanny resemblance?

Hmmm... maybe he did have a hand in the design at least...

Mark Dinucci designed the lugs used on this frame close to 20 years ago. You’ve seen them countless times … on the steel Specialized Allez. I love the way he thinned the points here.
