1988 Brodie Romax

I have a newly formulated plan now which I think ticks the box of keeping the fade and satisfies my urge to make the build my own.

This involves repainting my ICR stem yellow with red decals and repositioning the "brodie" decals to the downtube, some prefer leaving it up front on the top tube if that's how it came originally. If I went this direction I'll have two "brodie" decals far too close to each other I think, plus I like the downtube positioning and really want to add "romax" decals.

I will repaint the fork, stem and stays and touch up the main triangle

I actually like this mock up best of all so far 😁

Overboard OCD lately? 😂

Certainly looks like a plan!!! 💪😍

Build progress

Did this last week before the frame went for repair, I figure I will treat certain tubing insides further for potential rust before assembly, Evaporust bath first

Ended up making two trips to Jimbo’s this weekend due to my decal needs changing yesterday, always great hanging out a drooling over his collection 😁 , thanks @jimbotoad

Turns out “John Deere Yellow” is a very good match 👍

I love the look of that fade, can't wait to see the results.

I've been a bit absent here for a bit of July and most of August. What a great score Dave. I'm glad that you're sticking with the original paint for the time being. Build plans look pretty solid to me, and the final mock-up looks sweet!

Dropped the frame off with a welder/machinist who used to work at Rocky Mountain starting in the 90s, he’d joined us on our weekly Pitt River ride a couple weeks ago.

We both agreed to avoid a full chainstay replacement, he feels confident a repair can be made which will avoid this. I’d rather try this first and if eventually the full stay needed replacing so be it. The fillet brazing on this frame is a work of art and I want the chainstay saved if at all possible.

He’s a great addition to our group in many ways, dude has great stories and great skills 😁

His garage/shop is nicely set up with a old lathe which was used at Rocky BITD and few other goodies along with some pretty cool old frames:

A Derek Bailey built tricycle he made in 1974 when he worked for Roberts in England

A Derek Bailey built road frame, a one off I believe, unusual looking, the frame was made this way to achieve an ultra short chainstay length, the rear brake caliper mounts on the bottom of the “L” shaped seat/down tube

Some sweet steel frames

Overall, a great night 😁
Hi @Canuckbiker years ago I was told that those red and white frames had just been built for the Swiss market, did your RM friend kept some?

Hi @mforrest now that you mention it, I recall hearing similar regarding the red/white paint schemes, they’re one of my favourites as well.

Was great seeing these frames in person and yes, he does have the ones pictured in his collection still 👍

Bit of a mini update 😁

The frame repair is being patiently waited on but I understand is making slow progress bit by bit when my buddy finds some time 👍

In the meantime I decided to move forward and clear the fork & stem. Gotta say I really love SprayMax 2K glossy clear 😍

Figured I may as well give myself a sneak peak out how the front end will come together...

I'm mostly using all the parts taken off the climbMax build with a couple exceptions. Using black XT front brakes, figure they go well against the yellow fork. Also a black handlebar against the yellow stem.

I'm very stoked with how the red stem decals came out
