1988/9 Overbury's Pioneer

Not much progress to report, been sourcing bearings and bits and bobs for the build.

Amusingly, I got a call from the guy is bought the donor bike off asking if he could have it back. He got from a house clearance for a lady who'd had it in an outhouse for about 15 years.

A couple of days ago the bikes owner turned up asking for it back and was told it had been cleared out. Whoops!
So how's that going to play out? I assume it's certainly not your problem whatsoever, but desperate times call for desperate actions, guess he's gonna' just have to deal with it! 🤞 🤣

epic timing
It did make me chuckle. I literally pounced on that bike when I saw it on Facebook as it was a perfect donor for the overbury's. So perfect that I bought it before I knew I'd won this.

It's had a full set of minty m732 xt , down to the u brake and the pedals and all for a "I don't know anything about old bikes" price.

Little picture update to show condition. Bike is pretty much assembled now, hubs and headset serviced and working on the pedals next. then its cabling and indexing and she'll be ready to go.

The paint is frustrating; most of it is in good condition , but there are large portions of paint loss, and the forks are quite badly wormed. It's all been rust treated, cleaned up and waxed so its looking a lot better than when I picked up anyway.

the front-end has been moved across wholesale from my bontrager - mainly because I didn't feel like wrestling with the WTB grips to get the brakes and shifters off :)

Have you considered sitting the chainstays and bottom bracket in a bath of evaporust for 48h ? It shouldn't harm the paint, but will certainly kill the rust inside and out.

I just used a few bits of scrap wood screwed together with a bit of dpm plastic sheet to make the "tub"....did it on my pine mountain.

It will actually convert/remove.....rather than the paint on stuff which really just neutralises the surface. Also sitting in a bath does the insides too!

Just a thought.....then possibly a sectional respray.....which obviously won't be an option till the rust has really gone..
