1988/9 Overbury's Pioneer

Plusgas sorted the stem, a hacksaw sorted the handlebars (they were just too badly rusted to bother trying to save) so I'm left with a crusty frame and a seized post.

I'll just keep soaking and see what happens.

I was very lucky and a donor bike came up locally over the weekend, so I've got a full set of m732 deore XT to go on this when it's built, even down to the pedals.

anyone know the bottom bracket size for a pioneer? I'm measuring the shell as 70mm - but that can't be right, can it? (it's not italian threaded)

I would stick with the ctx 510 rims if they are in good nick. They are eyeletted and probably better imo than the at20s.....i doubt there is much in it weight wise.

I built some at20 recently, they are ok, but quite tight for tyre fitting.

Thanks for that, made some progress in build, looking much better I think
Indeed it does…think a black XT seatpost might possibly be nice touch…was watching the auctions, but was not certain either bike would fot me…have ridden a old school friends Pioneer and would really like to find one for myself eventually - especially as the Pioneer was tested against Saracen Trekker in the first MBUK I bought … after deliberation and visit to the Bristol shops we went for Trekkers (which worked out just fine) 😎

enjoy the rest of the restoration process, and riding when ready😎
