1986 F W Evans

Little bit of progress today. Frame cleaned up and started sorting out and fitting a few bits. Wheels have been trued, re-dished and hubs serviced. New bearings and grease in the headset.

Possible issue in that clearance is tight with the Smokes and I need to replace the rear tube as I've been let down (no pun intended) by another faulty PlanetX-sourced Vittoria Ultralite tube... still, it's looking really nice, I think.

Cooking dinner now. When I've done that I'll swap the inner tube over!

Really pleased with this so far. Tyres aren't going to work though. Maybe I'll put these Michelin Taigas on... was hoping for something with a slightly more aggressive tread... I wonder if I'd like it as much with black wall tyres...

Re:

Got the hump with the brakes on this today... first of all had a battle with the springs as they'd got mixed up, then found out there's not quite enough wiggle room with the plastic cover fitted so when tightened up they won't move freely.

Easy answer (I suppose) is to fit them without the plastic cover. I might do that for starters and think about shaving a bit off the back of the covers later - there's only a tiny bit in it (they move freely with the bolt done up nearly tight).

I've kinda lost interest in this...

...anyone want to take it on, either as frame and fork or as a collection of parts?

I think the frame owes me £100 plus postage. May do a "proper" ad in a bit.

Looking good. Many similarities to the 1986 Saracen Kili Flyer frameset I have, and not just because it's red.
I'll have to take a look next time I get a chance and compare it to your photos to see just how similar.
