My renewed love for these is because my second MTB back in 1989 when I was in college was an SM500 that I purchased new.
Unfortunately that bike was stolen.

I've been collecting parts for a while, some of which I had as replacement parts for my other SM600.

I think the most cost effective way is to buy a tatty one cheap with all the parts and restore it. Especially if you can paint yourself.
This one isn't costing me that much because I had most of the parts already as spares from my other SM600.

Yes.
They were cheap, only 10 dollars each.
I may steal some from another set of wheels I have that are for another build in the meanwhile (if they fit?).
