The clue I believe is that from the factory it was supplied with Exage Mountain (bronze) hubbed wheels and Mountain was only available in 88/89 as far as I know. The rest though was Deore MT60 which was 87/88 (and maybe earlier).

87 dated parts on this, maybe for the 88 sales year

Possibly a bunch of old parts that made it onto this frame to get a line out the door quickly and cheaply and to give it a high spec for the £ (it was a little ude £300 when I got it which with Deore was epic) but like I said the wheels were Wolber AT20 on Exage Mountain M450 hubs which were an 88/89 part. The frame was a some sort of Tig Welded lugless Cromolloy (a bit of an oddity at the time where most of the traditional brits like Butlers and Raleighs were brazed and lugged Reynolds tubesets) and seemed only to be available in 21"+ (which is still too big for me).
Anyway here's mine BITD at the summit of pen-y-fan
It was later broken up for parts as it was way too big and I put the parts on a much smaller 1990 Rockhopper comp frame, which was a pretty
awesome bike until it was stolen and replaced with my Anteaus. Anyway I won't post anymore about it as i'm polluting the Canyon thread.
