Re: 1982 Salsa Scoboni #6 Build Restoration

Here is a photo of the bike the day it was "born" and what I would be bringing it back to.

Here is the scanned article from 10/1/2004 when the bike was featured in DirtRag Issue 110

Gonna go from totally unique to a total wallflower? Here's one more vote for keeping the patina...

And how could you even think about getting rid of that little cow??? :D

Well....that is why I am putting it out to our circle of collectors. If you want to save it then now is your chance.... Otherwise if no one ponies up to the project, then I am going to continue on with the restoration. I am putting it on hold for a couple months and will continue to listen.

Like I said before, the paint is not original therefore in my book it's a candidate for a repaint. I understand that this paint screams the 80's decade and the paint is recognizable the way it is.

I talked in depth with Terry about my plans for the repaint..... we even took a video of him walking us through the bike and explaining what we would need to do to bring it back to the way it orginally was.

He is very comfortable with our vision and he is helping us with the restoration by providing original decals, paint codes, touches that he had initially put on the bike that were not on the other 6 (checkerboard chainstays). He sold us the bike giving us the ok to paint.... if he wasn't comfortable with it then we wouldn't have bought it from him.

So if you want to save the cow and save this paint... speak up now or forever hold your peace.

Re: 1982 Salsa Scoboni #6 Build Restoration

If you take a very close look at the chainstays on the original photo of the bike, you can barely see that the chainstays were checkerboard. Terry is helping us recreate that look that was inspired from Terry's Punk Black Flag days back in the early 80's.

There is a story of Henry Rollins rooming with Terry at one time.... or something of that nature. I will have to get back in touch with him to clarify the details but I was drawn to the punk heritage and the checkerboard chainstays are what connected with me and my passion for the early hardcore punk movement.

Kindofa weird threat to make. :?:

At least hold off on what you're going to do until Keyesville so we can discuss it (berate you ;) ) in person.

One of my friends was a big BF fan (before he went on to form his own band the Fartz that a few of you may know) He had a cool VW bug with BF handbills glued all over it on a whim. As you can imagine the car went downhill pretty fast after that. A touch of frustration taken out on a few of those quarter panels.

Definitely didn't mean that as a "threat". Guess what I meant was that I am putting my current plans on hold for a couple months out of respect for the community if someone was passionate about this paint. The bike was scheduled to go to paint after Keyesville anyways. If the bike is going to stay this paint scheme that so many people here seem to be passionate about, then I will pass it onto another "caretaker".

Wasn't a threat, just reality. Once I invest in original Oakley grips, NOS snakebelly tires and a Joe Bell paint job.... I will be in bed to keep the bike for the foreseeable future.
