Absolutely, I’ve got a sneaky suspicion the brakes & the Bottom Bracket might have to be swapped for something more suitable (that actually fit)
All good stuff for him to learn when he gets in from school tonight, I’m just going to lay out some more practicable options for him.. :xmas-wink:

Has he started offering opinions on what you should or shouldn't sell yet based on what he wants to keep?

In some ways I'm glad being a girl mine has very little interest in most of my hobbies and the bike I built entirely to her exacting specifications a few years ago sits in the garage without turning a wheel, that said she has taken a strange interest in cassettes recently and she'd already liberated the cassette deck, amp and speakers she wanted from my spare bits before she asked me to set it all up for her.

Oh yes.....

Back to the bike, the Campagnolo brakes wouldn’t fit (more a problem with the Allen key socket fitting than the reach) but after a dig through the boxes we found a set of Universal Super 68 brakes, they’ll do job perfectly, after a scrub & polish...

Finally got around to building the Super back up, now with the upgraded “Super 68” brakes with modern pads, a freshly refurbished set of lightweight Bluemels Club Special mudguards and some NOS early 90’s SIS kit the lad can now get back on the road, first short test had him beaming

Cheers Jamie, pretty much all the predominately French 60’s running gear I originally built it with has gone (except the BB & crankset because that fitted perfectly) now a mix of 70’s, 80’s & 90’s, but more focused on practically & safety.
The Wolber Super champions take a more modern K-guard higher pressure touring tyre and provide a much improved braking surface for the more modern pads, coupled with the more powerful Super 8 callipers.
The 6 speed with climbing ring and SIS indexing work very well without ruining the aesthetic (I think)
And the Bluemels & kit carrying rack give us a bigger riding window.

Oh you might have noticed he insisted on his “suicide” touring levers brought over from his Cavalier! :roll:

Cheers Allen, just need to re-fit the rack mount onto the other side of the brake bridge to flatten it out...
I do hate a sloppy rack! :shock:
