SEE GUMTREE ADVERT FOR PHOTOS, re posting the description below.

For more information see the forum title "1949 FH Grubb...i hope", there has been alot of photos posted there with the restoration and a lot of discussion regarding its history and provenance.

1951/1952 FH GRUBB Southern Cross

Specification:

- Serial number stamped on frame and forks is 3233

- Frame and forks have been sand blasted, then primed with rust inhibiting primer before being sprayed. Has the original head badge.

- Original GB drop bars and a stunning REYNOLDS stamped lugged stem, matching the lug work in the frame.

- Original Brampton headset, overhauled with brand new bearings.

- Original Bayliss Wiley bottom bracket, again overhauled with new bearings.

- Original GB SUPERHOOD brake levers, one of which is missing a brass adjuster.

-Original GB HINDINIUM brakes

- Original Williams crankset, stamped AP (1952) on both the ring and arms.

- Pedals are almost certainly frozen to the crank arms. I have tried everything possible, apart from a blow torch to remove them. That being said I was adamant I wanted to keep it as original as possible so I did completely dismantle the pedals, leaving only the spindle in the arm and cleaned and rebuilt the entire pedal with new bearings back onto the arm. They now function perfectly.

- The seat post and Brooks is also original, although as I'm sure you can see the saddle is shot. I can provide a brand new Selle Italia X1 with the sale if you'd like. Despite not being vintage.
The seat post does have a drill hole in it where I had to remove it, but it has cleaned up nicely and just adds to the character.

- The original wheels, Dunlop Special lightweight rims with Bayliss Wiley continental hubs are not useable at the moment but will restore well so will be included in the sale. The front hub has already been cleaned, stripped, repacked with new bearings and put together and works beautifully with all original bits so I know the rear would too.

-Brand new Weimann 26" wheels with new tubes and tyres

-Brand new chain

- New seat clamp bolt

-New cotter pins

- New inner and outer brake cables ( still need to be fitted, but can be before the sale)

- New vintage style brake pads

This is by no means a purist restoration, but it's a collection of beautiful 1950s parts ( all stamped MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN) that have been saved and the bike is now fully rideable, the new owner can decide whether it gets ridden or goes further with the restoration. But it is 98% finished and can be finished in an afternoon if some body wants something to ride away. Just haven't fitted the brake cables in case the bars wanted to be wrapped (they weren't originally).

Please see the retro bike forum, with the subject "1949 FH GRUBB...I hope" for all the research and discussion on this bikes provenance and some ongoing restoration photos. It is from a very interesting period in the Freddie Grubb timeline.

Based in Peterborough for viewing, willing to deliver almost anywhere if payment is agreed in advance and petrol costs are covered. Would rather not package up as I'd like it to be seen before being bought, but if that doesn't bother you I'm happy to dismantle and package up properly for a courier. Although not responsible for any damage caused by couriers.

Would definitely like it sold before Christmas as I would love the cash before I go on holiday on NYE so will accept offers. Asking £575
