126mm OLN

When did mtb's stop using this rear spacing and started 130mm and then 135mm.

Just got a 1988 Bridgestone MB-3, its 126mm OLN

I know I can spread the dropouts to something more sensible but I didn't think mtb's had ever been this dropout width.

For reference, my '88 Stumpie is 130mm; I had an '86 Fuji that was 126mm and I've got a project on the go which is 122mm - not sure of the year on that puppy.

All part of the rich tapestry of mountain bike development.

My 1989 Pailisades was 126. 7 speed only needed that so that would be the reason. My old Kona seems to have had a spacing a little less than 130mm making a 130mm hub a tight fit without having to spread the dropouts by a couple of mm.

On a similar topic has anyone known front spacing to be 110mm in recent years? I have some hope hubs from, I guess mid 90's. The rear - 130mm fair enough, front - 110mm? never had a front hub on any road or MTB other than 100mm before.

If anyone can shed any light... please do

Adam
