12.5" 1998/1997 GT Zaskar Build

Retro Newbie
Just purchased a 12.5" Zaskar frame on ebay for my wife.

I'll post some good pictures of it when it arrives.

I've seen many threads on these things and here's what I've learned:

If you take a look at the German 1997 and 1998 catalog, the Zaskar was offered as a complete bike, down to as small as 14", and offered as a frame only, as small as 12.5".

Xizang was offered as a complete bike as small as 16", and there was a rare frame only as small as 14".

The Zaskar frame I purchased has flat dropouts (not the box CNC ones), which I wanted since I drill all of my old frames to fit disc adapters.

It's got a flat top tube end cap, bent top tube, and drops are stamped 6061.

Once arrives, I'll document the build here.

Please ignore the horrible mock up and tires, it's just so you can see the scale of how small this thing is.

Now just wondering if I recycle some old 8 speed junk, or grab yet another complete 2x10 XT drivetrain?

Wow, that is small! All told, possibly even smaller tha. The 14" 1995 Zaskar frame for 24" wheels I bought a couple of months back to do up for The Boy.

Who's going to be using this bike, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah this thing is tiny. It's going to be used (or rather, not used) by my wife. Kids will also use it too.

26.8x350 seat post on the way, and a stubby stem. Guess I'll just grab another 2x10 XT set. Don't want to cannibalize anything to get this moving.

:)
