I believe so, it's a common way of getting a 10 speed wide range (11-42) cassette to work, or so I've been told!!

No the pull ratio for the shifters is different.

No the pull ratio for the shifters is different.

The shifter does indeed pull differently, but shimano 10 or 11 speed mechs are interchangeable.
