1 inch Steerer.

Howdy,

Recently bought an old (but perfect) RC 200, unfortunately it's the frame with a 1 inch steerer tube so I haven't got much choice in forks. Having said that I want to keep it retro anyway, so can anyone tell me (in their opinion) what were the best forks ever produced with a 1 inch steerer? I've currently got RC-35s on it but they are shot.

Any suggestions appreciated peeps.

You've already got the best sus forks for your frame. give Tim (justbackdated) a shout. He services Pace forks and holds most parts in stock.

Marzocchi had 1" options for many years across the range. For example I have some XC51's from 1995 with a 1" steerer and I also have some 2001 Bombers with a 1" steerer. Not saying they're the best, but it's an option for you.

Its is NOT an option to put marzocchi forks on a pace rc200 :shock:

Pace forks RC-30 keep it rigid 30's are rigid? can't remember but you know the ones i mean. I had two pairs. Just at 420 long were too long for my vintage frames

Maybe I'll just keep a beady ebay eye out for some old but sweet RC-35s. I didn't know if Manitou or rock shox did some decent 1 inch steerer forks back in the day that I might find?

Well yes they both did, but to be honest anything but Pace forks will look wrong on this frame. I would look out for some more of the same or rebuild the ones you have. I'm pretty sure that Tim (justbackdated) on here will do it for you if you're not keen on doing it yourself.

If you do look for replacements, look on here as well as ebay!

Yep, I hear you, good call compadre. I love the look of RC-35s, I was just thinking it might be worth trying to get some air / oil forks that would fit. Purely from a performance perspective. Elastomers just seem so... out of date now, I wasn't sure if it would keep up with newer bikes? For sure I'd look the coolest, but I don't wanna always be at the back (other than due to my fitness!)

What you reckon? Stop whineing and fix the RC-35s, right?

You've already got a pair. Seriously, the way prices of RC35s and RC36s are going, you won't get any that need no work for much less than £80 - £100.
Chances are it'll cost a lot less than that to service the ones you have. They probably don't need much more than a good service and some new elastomers.

Oh, and those MDs are reasonably hard to come by, so they're worth the work.
